WHAT IS A COOKIE?

A cookie is a tiny piece of data stored on your computer and managed by your web browser at the request of a website. Cookies are very useful to a website because they help the website remember important things like what items you have in your shopping basket, what special offers you might be eligible for and whether you are logged in. They also help websites remember your preferences.

Cookies are also used to help improve a website by using a unique (anonymous) value to help the site owner identify the most popular content, measure site performance and how often users visit. Websites often use services from other companies to help with this analysis and the cookies used by these other companies on the website owner's behalf are called third-party cookies. Because cookies are managed by your web browser if you move to a different device or browser software the cookies won't come along.

OUR COOKIES

Two cookies are used on our website

PHPSESSID – Contains a PHP “session ID and expires when the browser is closed

The "PHPSESSID" cookie is required so that the site can recognise the same user clicking from page to page. Without it, every page would be treated as the first visit to the site, and anything added to the shopping basket would be instantly forgotten, making shopping impossible.

Session – Contains a PHP “session ID, can also contain and email address and encrypted password, expires after one year

The "session" cookie is intended for the user's convenience, we create this with a copy of the initial session ID so that user can be classed as "returning" and the contents of their shopping basket will still be available. If the user signs in with an email address and password, these login details are also saved so that they can remain logged in when returning (the password is encrypted). If the user signs out, their login details are removed from the cookie.

THIRD PARTY COOKIES

We use google to provide us with analytics data.  Google Analytics have their own cookies and cookie policies which can be viewed on their website.

These analytical cookies are not needed for you to use our site but they do help us improve the site to make it easier and faster to use.

COOKIE SETTINGS

You can control which cookies your web browser allows via the browser's preferences.

You may prevent (block) all cookies or just some but remember that some cookies are required for our websites to work.
